At Cherwood House we have a team of 13 catering and cleaning staff. Staff cover the cooking and cleaning from 7am to 7pm, 7 days a week. Our team is led by Catering Manager Christine and her Deputy - Claire.
Both Christine and Claire have had extensive training and are NVQ level 3 qualified, with qualifications also in nutrition, working and operating safely, food, health and safely, risk assessment and Christine is also a First Aider. All our catering staff hold current Food Hygiene certificates.
At Cherwood House we hold a 5 star rating with the “scores on the doors” and we work closely with our Environmental Health Department, with them coming to Cherwood House to give Food Safety talks to all our staff including all of our careers.
Our Catering Department provides a varied diet for our residents with all dietary requirements catered for upon request. Our food is cooked fresh daily and we source our food from local suppliers; these include our meat, fish, eggs and vegetable produce.

Tea, coffee, squash and fruit juice are available all day to our residents as they require them.
We also provide each resident with a birthday cake on their birthday and both staff and residents all join in with a rousing chorus of “Happy Birthday” to help celebrate their day.
At Cherwood House activities and outings are always being arranged to give our residents a varied social life, when necessary our catering department also provides the foods for such events as Boat Trips, Cheese & Wine parties, Christmas parties, Summer tea fayre’s etc.….. We will also cater upon request for any requirements of residents families e.g. small birthday teas, special events etc.
We also celebrate traditional food days for example ‘St George’s Day’, ‘St Patricks Day’ etc. using the traditional fayre served with that day.
In May 2014 our kitchen department at Cherwood House underwent a complete refurbishment going from a dated Ex-RAF kitchen to a wonderful light, modern streamlined kitchen which is fit for purpose, with new cooking equipment allowing our cooks an even greater range of cooking and ensuring our residents have the most nutritious meals that they require.
